Government releases advisory to stay protected against heat-related illnesses:

  • Avoid cooking during peak summer hours
  • Avoid high protein food and do not eat stale food
  • Open doors and windows ventilate the cooking area
  • Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks as these may lead to loss of more body fluid.

During the scorching summer months, consuming foods with high water content can help keep you hydrated and cool. Opt for juicy fruits like watermelon, cucumber, oranges, and berries, as well as vegetables such as lettuce, tomatoes, and zucchini. These foods not only provide hydration but also essential vitamins and minerals. Additionally, include light and refreshing meals like salads, smoothies, in your diet. Incorporating hydrating beverages like coconut water, lemonade, and herbal teas can further help combat the effects of summer heat. Stay cool and nourished by prioritizing these hydrating and refreshing foods during hot weather.
It’s wise to steer clear of foods that can exacerbate dehydration and heat-related discomfort. Avoid heavy and greasy foods like fried dishes, fatty meats, and rich desserts, as these can weigh you down and increase body temperature. Limit consumption of spicy foods, as they can stimulate sweat production and contribute to dehydration. Additionally, minimize intake of caffeine and alcohol, as they have diuretic effects that can further deplete fluids. Processed snacks high in salt should also be avoided, as they can increase thirst and water retention. Opt for light, hydrating meals to keep cool and comfortable during hot summer days.
