The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) is revamping its curriculum to align with current job market needs. This includes introducing three new vocational subjects and discontinuing Punjabi, Gujarati, and French due to low student enrollment in recent years.
Apart from discontinuing three subjects, the WBCHSE has introduced three new vocational subjects to equip students with practical skills and knowledge that align with current industry demands, fostering better employability prospects.These subjects include Banking Financial Services and Insurance (BFIV), Food Processing (FDPV), and Telecom (TELV).
WBCHSE Updates for Class 12 Board Exams
New Subject Options: The board has introduced three new optional subjects for students to choose from:
Applied Artificial Intelligence (APAI), Cyber Security (CBST), and Science of Well Being (SOWB).
Revised Marking Scheme: The marking scheme for Health and Physical Education, Music, and Visual Arts has been revised. The theory component of health and family education has been increased from 40 to 70. The practical component will now have 30 percent weightage. For music and visual arts, the theory and practical marks will be 50 marks each.
Updated Subject Codes: Be aware that subject codes have been changed. Make sure to use the updated codes when registering for your exams.

Earlier in March, in a major change starting this academic year (2024-25), the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) implemented a semester system for Classes XI and XII. This shift to a split-exam format offers students a valuable “second chance.” Unlike the previous system with a single, high-pressure final exam, students will now have the opportunity to improve their performance in the fourth and final semester. This allows them to compensate for any shortcomings in their earlier semesters.
