World’s most expensive cheese sold for ₹ 27 Lakhs in Spain – Times of India

As per reports, Cabrales blue cheese, a type of blue cheese from Northern Spain, sold for €30,000 breaking the record for the world’s most expensive cheese sold at auction. A 2.2kg wheel of the cheese was auctioned at a local cheese festival held in the Principality of Asturias.
Guillermo Pendas manufactured the record-breaking block of cheese at his family’s factory in Los Puertos. As per a quote given my Guillermo to news agencies, they knew they had a good cheese, but they also knew it was very difficult to win. Interestingly, the cheese had been matured in a cave at an altitude of 1,400 meters at a temperature of 7 °C, where it spent a minimum of eight months.

The block was sold to Ivan Suarez, the owner of a restaurant near Oviedo. The same person bought the block of cheese that previously held the world record in 2019. Interestingly, the previous record (set in 2019) was also attributed to a block of the same type of cheese.
As per the Guinness World Records (GWR) website, Cabrales cheese is a semi-hard, very strong-tasting blue cheese,” which is produced by artisan farmers in Asturias, Spain. As per experts, it is typically made from raw cow milk, mixed with goat or sheep’s milk, and further aged for several months in the limestone caves. The local temperature, humidity, and active microorganisms give this cheese a sharp, pungent flavor.
